Product Preview: Soft Serve Scarf!!

I’ve been wanting to do another ice cream scarf for some time (I did one years ago), but just never got around to it. I wanted to refine the cone, and I wanted to make sure that my ice cream scarf didn’t look too much like my cupcake scarf!! Also a little birdie once wrote me a letter covered in cute little sketches of things. One sketch was of soft serve scarf. It looked like vanilla with rainbow sprinkles. I’d been thinking for a while about how to do it, and I finally settled on a plan.

I got a great yarn from ImagiKnit. I believe the brand is Twinkle. It’s super duper chunky, fluffy, soft and luscious. It’s truly delicious! I bought it in chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla. This stuff is $20 a hank! I probably won’t keep using this yarn, but it was nice to work with on this initial scarf.

The cone is good ol’ Vanna yarn. I like working with Vanna a lot, and there are a ton of colors (not great pink or yellow, tho!). I ran into the problem of the cone curling a bit. I seem to have this problem when I work in sc. I haven’t discovered or read about any ways of curing the curl, so I think for my next version, I will work in a wool for the cone so I can try to block it and stop the curling.

As you can see, this scarf is HUGE!! It’s too big for my taste. Not only is it big, but it’s also rather dense, eventho the chunky yarn is worked in dc, so it’s super heavy, and when you wrap it around your neck, it feels like a neck brace!!!

So next time: smaller pattern, looser work on the ice cream so it’s not so dense, and wool yarn for cone. I also want to do all vanilla ice cream, with rainbow colored party cones! I like how there is space across the top of the cone to stitch out words if I want, like people’s names!

I really want to make another version right away, but I have other pressing craft-fair projects to complete!!

It's GORGE! I love the detail on the cone and the yarn for the ice cream is beautiful. I haven't tried Vanna yarn yet, lol, but I was admiring the color palette as well!

Thank you!

Yeah I really like the weight of Vanna too since it seems to be a fairly substantial weight for a worsted!

OMG it's such a trick!!!! It's actually really strange feeling to wear because it doesn't squish down. it feels reallly rigid!!!! whoever ends up buying this will have to accept that it's more of a piece for show than for comfort :P :P i'll try to get the pattern better tho!

It's really beautiful! I love how huge and dense it is personally......a yarny neck brace would be perfect for freezing cold arctic Wisconsin winters.

Why have I forgotten all about freaking rainbow colored party cones till now?!?!?? Vanilla with the party cones is fan-freaking-chuck norris-tastic.

I am blown away by your crafty magnificentness again fair lady.

i LOVE this design! i agree, it does look a bit big, but adorable nonetheless! could there possibly be soft serve cutility packs in the works? 'cause i'm thinking i'd want one!

that would be cute! i'd have to think about how i'd want to deal with the opening/zipper. also, it would have to be made a totally different way, because i'd have to extra-emphasize all the lines and texture since the felting process for cute-tility packs can smush everything down!

I love it. And the Twinkle yarn is LUSCIOUS. (fibergasm) It is indeed big, but the proportions are sound! It makes me very happy to see you using wool, btw. You make my fiber-lover self very happy. ;) You should check out Lamb's Pride bulky - it gives a similar effect to the Twinkle stuff but as a better price. I haven't fondled the Twinkle yarn in person, but it just looks so wonderful every time I see it. On a large, tall person that scarf would be perfect.

how does the lamb's pride bulky feel? is it at all scratchy??

No it's quite soft - it's a single-yarn, like the Twinkle, and has 15% mohair for extra softness and halo.

omg thats the most beautiful one of all your scarves i think! such a great new creation! but yeah, it really is a little bit on the huge side. for a tiny person like me it would probably look weird.
